Nusantara, een nieuwe hoofdstad  

Jakarta, de hoofdstad van Indonesië, is met 10 miljoen inwoners overvol en zwaar vervuild. Bovendien dreigt de stad door bodemdaling en de stijgende zeespiegel onder water te lopen. Een nieuwe hoofdstad – Nusantara – moet Jakarta gaan ontlasten en uiteindelijk uitgroeien tot een bruisend centrum van economische activiteit en innovatie met de modernste architectuur. Ook bij dit megaproject zijn er zorgen, omdat Nusantara wordt gebouwd in de natuur aan de kust van Kalimantan.    

Nusantara, a new capital    

With 10 million inhabitants, Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is overcrowded and highly polluted. It is also in constant danger of flooding due to the combination of subsidence and rising sea levels. A new capital – Nusantara – has been planned to relieve Jakarta and is intended to become a lively centre of economic activity and innovation, featuring cutting-edge architecture. This mega project is also cause for concern, since it will be built in nature along the coast of Kalimantan.
