Batikdoeken zijn geliefde souvenirs voor Nederlandse soldaten als herinnering aan hun diensttijd. Vaak laten ze de doeken in opdracht maken en de naam van het bataljon erin verwerken. De makers verstoppen soms subtiele verzetsboodschappen in de doeken, bijvoorbeeld de kleuren rood en wit van de Indonesische vlag. Zo nemen de soldaten nietsvermoedend nationalistische propaganda mee naar huis.

Batik cloths were popular souvenirs for Dutch soldiers, as a memento of their military service. They often had the batik commissioned and the name of their battalion included. The makers sometimes hid subtle resistance messages in the decoration, such as the red and white colours of the Indonesian flag. The unsuspecting soldiers carried nationalist propaganda home with them.
