Winners World Press Photo Contest 2021 announced

During the Award Show on April 15, the winners of the World Press Photo Contests 2021 were announced. The World Press Photo of the Year is The First Embrace by Danish photographer Mads Nissen. In the photo Rosa Luzia Lunardi (85) is embraced by nurse Adriana Silva da Costa Souza in a care home in São Paulo, Brazil, hit by Covid-19. This was the first hug Rosa received in five months. The World Press Photo Story of the Year is Antonio Faccilongo’s Habibi. This winning series shows love stories set against the background of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The images show its impact on Palestinian families. The work of a Dutch photographer has also been awarded. Jasper Doest receives first prize in the Nature category with his series Pandemic Pigeons – A Love Story.
