What is The roof of Amsterdam?
The roof of Amsterdam is a unique opportunity for visitors to climb the roof of De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam during the restoration of the celebration tower, offering a panoramic view over the city.
When does this activity take place?
The roof of Amsterdam is open from March 22, 2025, to November 2, 2025. We’re opened daily from 11:00 to 18:00 (last entry at 17:00). Please note that Roof of Amsterdam is closed on April 14, 15, 16, 26, May 4, and August 1, 2, and 3.
How can I buy tickets?
Tickets can be purchased online via De Nieuwe Kerk’s website. It is also possible to buy tickets at the ticket counter on the day of your visit, but online reservations in advance are recommended.
What are the ticket prices?
The ticket prices for The roof of Amsterdam are as follows:
- Adult: €15
- Youth (12-17 years): €12.50
- Child up to 11 years: €10
- CJP/Student: €12.50
- Members De Nieuwe Kerk: €10
- I amsterdam City Card: €11.25
- VriendenLoterij VIP-KAART: free
- Stadspas: free
Can I reschedule my tickets?
Would you prefer to visit on another day? You can easily reschedule your ticket yourself.
- Go to the page of your booked e-ticket.
- Click on the ‘manage order’ icon.
- Enter the order number and email address to view and modify the booking.
- You will receive a new confirmation email.

How long does a visit to The roof of Amsterdam take?
A new shift of visitors goes up every 15 minutes. A visit is expected to take approximately 45 to 60 minutes, but staying longer or shorter is allowed!
Is the climb physically demanding?
The climb consists of 216 steps and requires a reasonable level of physical fitness. Visitors are advised to consider this when planning their visit.
Can children climb The roof of Amsterdam?
Absolutely. Admission is free for children up to 1 year old. Please note that children up to 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Can I bring a stroller or buggy?
No, it is not possible to access The roof of Amsterdam with a stroller or buggy.
Can I go up if I am in a wheelchair?
For visitors who rely on a physical aid such as a wheelchair, an elevator is available. Please inform one of our staff members on-site. Note: This elevator is not available for parents/guardians with strollers or buggies.
Can I bring my bag up?
Bags larger than A4 size are not allowed on The roof of Amsterdam. Visitors can use the lockers inside De Nieuwe Kerk for storage.
Can I go up if I have a fear of heights?
If you have a fear of heights, we do not recommend visiting the roof. It is not possible to turn back in the opposite direction once you start the climb.
What happens in case of bad weather?
In extreme weather conditions, The roof of Amsterdam may be temporarily closed for safety reasons. Visitors will be informed in such cases and will have the option to reschedule or receive a refund.
Can I take photos during the climb?
Yes, visitors are welcome to take photos (without selfie sticks) during the climb and from the platform on the roof. However, caution is advised with equipment due to the height and possible wind.
Can I pay with cash?
De Nieuwe Kerk is a pin-only museum. Credit cards are accepted, but cash payments are not.
